In 1983, in the second year of apparitions at Medjugorje, the Queen of Peace asked for a prayer group which she herself led thanks to the gift of "inner locutions" granted to Jelena and Marijana Vasilj. It was Our Lady's desire that the group receive the spiritual guidance of Padre Tomislav Vlasic who was in charge of the parish at the time.
One of the conditions that Our Lady asked of the members of the prayer group was not to make any decisions for the next four years with regards to their future, but that, instead, they should pray so their hearts would be ready to accept whichever call God would propose for each of them. In the summer of 1986 it became ever more clear that Our Lady was calling for a new Community.
In Medjugorje Our Lady constantly calls us to enter more deeply into the Mystery of the Sacrifice of the Altar; and it has become clear how Our Lady is calling together Her children so that they might gather around this Mystery of Salvation. Significantly, the two pillars which form the foundation of this call are Mary and the Eucharist. Members of the Community "Kraljice Mira, potpuno tvoji po Mariji k Isusu" (Queen of Peace, wholly Thine; to Jesus through Mary) are called to offer their own lives as a "living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God" (Rm 12:1).
So just as Jesus climbed onto the cross of His own will to save the world, also those who feel they are called to offer themselves for this purpose, should consider the occasions of suffering in this same light, and be an unceasing prayer and remain in constant adoration of the Father for the sake of all mankind. This is not a call to suffering, but a call to love, where one offers his or her life to the Father in union with the Sacrificial Lamb in a journey which unfolds and is fulfilled gradually in the likes of Jesus Christ Who was crucified, died and was risen.

In January of 1987 the Community became a private Association of the Christian Faithful, according to norms of the present Code of canon laws. The Community, a spiritual family of contemplative life, is made up of clerics and laity, of both men and women - or rather brothers and sisters - who live according to the "Rule of the Third Order (Secular Franciscans) approved by Pope John Paul II in 1982.
The Community's houses (in two countries) are shared by approximately 40 so called live-in members, but the external members also make up the Community. These are consecrated lay persons who remain in the world while practising the same spirituality and call to self-offering.

Fr. Tomislav Vlasic likes to stress that he is not the founder of the Community, for the true founder is the Holy Spirit Who inspires people to respond to His call.
The entire history of salvation is marked by the Spirit's intervention, just as the apparitions of Our Lady at Medjugorje are.
God carries forward His plan of salvation by making use of people who respond to His call; and that makes us mere instruments in His hands. People change and pass on, but the Spirit of God remains for ever to guide and fulfil all of the Father's plans.
